Why Should we Love One another? There is no greater force than love. If two people truly love each other, they will do anything for each other. There is no greater bond on earth than true love. This is especially true for believers. Why? Is there a difference between the love that believers have for one another, and the love that unbelievers have for there neighbors? Scripture says yes, emphatically yes. We has believers are to have a different kind of love than neighbors have for one another. The love that believers are to have one another is what the Greek calls БPhiladelphiaБ love, a very special kind of love. The word is rarely found except in Christian writings. Philadelphia love means БBrotherly LoveБ, the very special love that exists between the bothers and sister within a loving family, brothers and sisters who truly cherish each other. It is the kind of love that binds us together as a family, that binds us in an unbreakable union, which nourishes and nurtures one another, that shows concern and looks after the welfare of one another. The importance of believers loving one another with Philadelphia love cannot be over emphasized. We will see today that verse 22 of this passage teaches we are to sincere love for each other. Sincere means genuine, without pretension, without hypocrisy (whoa), or playing or acting.
We are not to pretend, play, or act like we love one another; we are to love one another genuinely and sincerely. We will learn today that there can be no mistake about the importance of love, remember this was written to a people who were severely persecuted for there faith, they were on the run, running for there lives, it is vitally important that true love exists within this body of believers as well as us today, because you will not find it in the world. We will learn that verse 22 teaches to love deeply from the heart. The word БdeeplyБ does not mean with warmth but actually with Бfull intensityБ. It literally means to Бstretch love fully outБ, or to love one another in an Бall out mannerБ, meaning to have a БrecklessБ love for each other. This is the kind of love believers are to have for one another, a Philadelphia kind of love. Today, the apostle Peter will teach us three reasons why we are to love one another deeply. Read Scriptures: I. We should love one another because, our souls have been purified. Vs. 22 БNow that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart. Б
When something is purified it totally cleaned form any impurities. The scripture says, БNow that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truthБ.
Listen, the only way that we can truly love one another the way the bible says we are to, is to be cleaned from all the junk of the world. Cleansed from selfishness, and any self-seeking attitudes that we may have had as unbelievers. We are purified by obeying the truth. Jesus says БHe is the way, the truth, and the life, and no man comes to the father except by Him. Б Jesus is the truth, He and only He is the one who can purify us and get rid of the dirt and junk that we bring to Him for forgiveness. вand they all end in the Bible says so. Seriously, the Bible is explicit on this point: Christians are known by their love for one another. There is no greater criteria consistently expressed. Our love for God inevitably works out in our love for people. Here are 20 places we re reminded of this: Zechariah 8:17: вdo not devise evil in your hearts against one another, and love no false oath, for all these things I hate, declares the Lord. John 13:34-35: A new commandmentВ I give to you,В that you love one another:В just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. John 15:12: This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. John 15:17 : These things I command you, so that you will love one another. 1 John 3:11 : For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. 1 John 3:23: В And this is his commandment, that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another, just as he has commanded us. 1 John 4:7 : Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 1 John 4:11-12 : Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
No one has ever seen God; if we love one another, God abides in us and his love is perfected in us. 2 John 1:5: В And now I ask you, dear ladyвnot as though I were writing you a new commandment, but the one we have had from the beginningвthat we love one another. Romans 12:10 : Love one anotherВ with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor. Romans 13:8: Owe no one anything, except to love each other, for the one who loves another has fulfilled the law. 2 Corinthians 13:11: Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. Galatians 5:13: В For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.
Ephesians 4:2 В вwith all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in loveв 1 Thessalonians 3:12: В вand may the Lord make you increase and abound in love for one another and for all, as we do for youв 1 Thessalonians 4:9 : Now concerning brotherly love you have no need for anyone to write to you, for you yourselves have been taught by God to love one anotherв 2 Thessalonians 1:3: We ought always to give thanks to God for you, brothers, as is right, because your faith is growing abundantly, and the love of every one of you for one another is increasing. Hebrews 10:24: 1 Peter 1:22: В Having purified your souls by your obedience to the truth for a sincere brotherly love, love one another earnestly from a pure heartв 1 Peter 4:8: В Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. For some of us this might seem like a moot point, but it is worth repeating: We cannot escape the reality that Christ doesn t just call us to himselfвhe calls us into community. When we try to do the Christian life alone or when we withhold forgiveness from others, we shouldn t shrug it off: we should be terrified. Our love for God is directly displayed in our love for God s people. If we don t show genuine, biblical love for one another, what does that tell us?
