why do we need to study computer ethics

I need to study computer ethics because it is important and relevant to us as a student to know the important details and information regarding computer ethics. In computer ethics, it study the way in which computers pose new versions of standard moral problems and moral dilemmas. Computer ethics also involved here the computer crimes which computer virus destroyed the system of a computer. As an I. T. professional, you need to study computer ethics because it is part of your task as a student and also being an I. T. professional. Computer ethics is a compatible with a wide variety of approaches to ethical problem-solving. Computers are logically malleable in that they can be shaped and molded to do any activity that can be characterized in terms of inputs, outputs, and connecting logical operations. I need to study computer ethics to know more better when computer ethics started and what does computer ethics really mean. Also what is the importance and advantages/disadvantages of computer ethics in our life as an I. T. professional someday. Computer ethics can help us to identify and analyzes the impacts of information technology on such social and human values as health, wealth, work, opportunity, freedom, knowledge, privacy, security, and self-fulfillment. We are entering a generation marked by globalization and ubiquitous computing. The second generation of computer ethics, therefore, must be an era of global information ethics.

That\’s why we need to study Computer Ethics because every now and then it is significant nor relevant to us.
When computers started gaining market, there was actually little regulation concerning its use. As more and more features are developed, we are able to do all kinds of crazy stuff. Policy vacuum When a new technology emerges, we can now do a lot of new things. And so, thereБs a policy vacuum Б a lack of regulation or restriction on new actions that people might takeБ. LetБs say thereБs a new app that allows us to hack any website on the internet. What happens is that a policy vacuum is created, because there is no policy to prevent people from hacking the school website. Conceptual vacuum Б This one happens when we think weБve figured out a problem in computer ethics, but only to find out that the problem is way deeper than we think. _____EXTRACT FROM What is Computer Ethics, by James Moor______ We know that computing technology is being employed in a given situation, but we are puzzled how it should be used. There is a policy vacuum. For example, should a supervisor be allowed to read a subordinateБs email? Or should the government be allowed to censor information on the Internet? Initially, there may be no clear policies on such matters. They never arose before. There are policy vacuums in such situations. Sometimes it may be simply a matter of establishing some policy, but often one must analyze the situation further.

Is email in the workplace more like correspondence on company stationery in company Оles or more like private and personal phone conversations? Is the Internet more like a passive magazine or more like an active television? One often Оnds oneself in a conceptual muddle. The issues are not trivial matters of semantics. Moor said that computer technology is genuinely revolutionary because it is Б logically malleable Б: (Moor 1985, p. 266) Computers are logically malleable in that they can be shaped and molded to do any activity that can be characterized in terms of inputs, outputs and connecting logical operations. A computer Virus, derived from the Latin word virus which means poison, is a self-propagating computer program designed to alter or destroy a computer system resource. Hackers and cyber criminals are getting more aggressive even as the global reliance on computer and telecommunications technology is increasing. make everyone aware of the vulnerability and consequences of a cyberspace attack on their well-being, ensure that everyone is well equipped to safely deal with a cyber-attack in this technology-driven and fast-changing society, help put in place a set of mechanisms to detect, prevent, and handle any cyber-attack, and devise a legal and regulatory framework to handle cyberspaceБs social consequences. Ok so thereБs an argument over whether we really need to learn computer ethics.

There are 2 schools of thought on thisБ. certain ethical issues are so transformed by the use of computers that they deserve to be studied on their own, in their radically altered form the involvement of computers in human conduct can create entirely new ethical issues, unique to computing, that do not surface in other areas. We should study computer ethics because doing so will make us behave like responsible professionals. We should study computer ethics because doing so will teach us how to avoid computer abuse and catastrophes. We should study computer ethics because the advance of computing technology will continue to create temporary policy vacuums. We should study computer ethics because the use of computing permanently transforms certain ethical issues to the degree that their alterations require independent study. We should study computer ethics because the use of computing technology creates, and will continue to create, novel ethical issues that require special study. We should study computer ethics because the set of novel and transformed issues is large enough and coherent enough to define a new field. Whatever school one falls in, there is enough justification to study computer ethics. Computer Ethics plays a critical role in business and society. This session seeks to introduce students to the purpose of Computer Ethics.
