Why do we need a digestive tract? If the body did not have a digestive tract, you could not
enjoy your favorite pizza, hamburger, or other food. The human body must obtain its energy by eating food. Therefore, the main purpose of the digestive system is to provide the body with, and to keep our cells functioning. The digestive system provides these essential materials to the 75 trillion cells that live in our bodies. Wow! Do you know how many 75 trillion is? The digestive tract takes both liquids and food and breaks them down into single molecules that can be absorbed by cells in the small intestine. These cells transport the molecules into the blood stream so that other cells in the body can use them. The digestive tract also serves to eliminate what your body doesn\’t absorb during the digestive process. Why do I have a stomach? The stomach has two major functions in your body: one for digestion and one for defense. (See the illustration on the right. ). Digestion breaks down proteins with acidic stomach juice, secreting that split up proteins into individual amino acids ( ). The defense component kills most foreign organisms that you ingest so that they can\’t get into your bloodstream or anywhere else in your body. These organisms are destroyed by the highly acidic stomach fluid that is secreted within the stomach. Why do you have two intestines? The intestines are where the body absorbs all of the food, vitamins, fluid, and minerals that you eat. The intestines are long giving your body a greater opportunity to absorb more of what you eat.

The small intestine breaks down proteins, carbohydrates, and fats so that they can be absorbed into the body and the bloodstream. The large intestine is where moisture is absorbed from what is left of the food. Anything that is not absorbed by the intestines is then passed through as solid waste (or feces). Why are the liver and pancreas important in digestion? Your liver secretes into your small intestine. This bile contains worn out red blood cells that must be removed from the body. If the old red blood cells are not removed, they can become toxic. The bile secreted by your liver also separates the fats that you eat so that they can be broken down by enzymes. (See the picture on the right. ) Fat clumps together and when bile is not secreted into the small intestine, your enzymes are less efficient at breaking down fats into their fatty acid components. The enzymes that break down these separated fats come from the pancreas, as do those enzymes that break down carbohydrates and proteins. The pancreas also secretes a basic solution that neutralizes the acidic solution left over from the stomach. The pancreas also secretes insulin, which helps move glucose (blood sugar) from blood into cells. Diabetes is a common and very serious disease that results from lack of insulin. For more information about diabetes, is quite complex. The complexity comes from our emotions, the environment and the foods we eat.

These can cause bloating, gas, constipation, diarrhea, upset tummy and so on. today is full of chemicals in our air, water, cleaning products and personal hygiene products, and this affects the liver and lymphatic system. Having too many chemicals to eliminate creates health disturbances in our body. Colon cancer and other cancers are among those diseases which stem from too many chemicals. Consequently, it also disturbs the hormonal system. commercial food, is full of chemicals, additives, food colouring, growth hormones and antibiotics. If you reside in North America you also face the potential of Genetically Modified and Irradiated food. Commercial food lacks nutrients because the soil has been depleted from mono-culturing and excessive use of pesticides and herbicides. Today, commercial food is not only missing those essential nutrients such as minerals in the soil which carry over into our food but vitamins such as antioxidants, which keep our immune system strong, and stop accelerated aging in humans and our animal friends.

Therefore, it is important for for the digestion in humans and our animal friends, that we eat foods raised and grown without chemicals, in nutrient- rich soil. Stress and digestion issues affect the immune system because stress makes it hard for our digestive tract to properly secrete enzymes such as protease, one of many enzymes for protein digestion. Lipase for digestion of fats, amylase and other enzymes for the digestion of complex carbohydrates and the secretion of hydrochloric acid are all necessary for the digestion in humans of our foods which hold the nutrients. Stress also affects our hormones (endocrine system), the Liver and Gall Bladder, w hich play a key role in digestive and hormonal health. If we have too much stress we can suffer from all kinds of health issues Find ways to balance stress We can\’t always get away from it, but we can learn to assist us in finding a healthy balance. If you\’re under stress for prolonged periods or you\’re feeling run down, nervous, anxious or irritable and need to eat, drink your nourishment Drink some Have rice porridge known as congee. Eat foods that are easy to digest, like stir fries or stews. Get your greens from yo such as barley grass juice or powder, chlorella powder, wheat grass juice or powder, or spirulina. All these foods are very rich in nutrients and very easy to absorb.

The reason I like to drink my nourishment when I\’m under stress is it bypasses digestion and allows our nutrients to be easily absorbed in the small intestines where we receive our nourishment also, when we rest the digestive system, the energy we would use for digestion is directed to other parts of the body, for increased healing. The Liver and Gall Bladder work as part of digestion in humans; the gall bladder is very important for many reasons. One of the main organs responsible for overall wellness is the LIVER. The liver has a great deal of responsibility to help our entire body maintain wellness. One of the main purposes of the liver is to detoxify chemicals from our food, air, water and prescription drugs. When we are exposed to excess chemicals the liver can no longer detoxify and cleanse so the chemicals are reabsorbed, creating digestive and hormonal imbalances. The reabsorbed chemicals become xeno-estrogens which move into the receptor sites (home) of the phyto-estrogens (natural estrogen from food). When this happens it creates hormonal imbalances, putting stress on the very delicate endocrine system especially the thyroid and adrenal glands. The liver is also responsible for storing the blood and purifying the blood, as well as aiding in the digestion of fats (gall bladder).
